Lorde – Solar Power (Album)

New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde has today released her long awaited third album, Solar Power. It is her first album in four years since her 2017 effort, Melodrama which was her 1st US number one album. Lorde describes it as being, “celebration of the natural world”. She says that it’s, “an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors.”

Lorde revealed that her original intention was “to make this big acid record,” when speaking to the New York Times. But her plans changed when she, “had one bad acid experience.” So she turned to weed insted, “it’s a weed album. It’s one of my great weed albums.” With a song like “Stoned at the Nail Salon”, that couldn’t be any more clearer.

Solar Power also includes the title track and lead single, “Mood Ring” as well as “Dominoes”. It has a hippy, hedonistic vibe to it and despite what Lorde said, the album evokes a feeling of sadness. Solar Power is out now on Apple Music and Spotify, you can listen to it in full below.
