Once again our friends at Point Blank Music School have deconstructed a massive track, this time it’s the colossal “Dance Monkey” by Tones And I.
In this instructional video Point Blank Content Developer, Risa T uses Logic Pro X to completely break down the elements of Dance Monkey, then shows how to recreate this undeniable banger from the ground up. She starts off by looking at chord progression with the track’s unique bass pluck and percussive finger snaps. With the chord progression, plucks and percussion laid down, she moves on to the 808 which she programmed in Native Instruments’ Massive. After that Risa shows how to easily create your own sweeping sound effects which are perfect for build-ups. Towards the end she works through Dance Monkey’s chorus – the part which features that big Moog-style bassline we’re all familiar with.
As with just about all Point Blank track deconstructions, this one is ideal for aspiring Producers looking for tips on how to structure their tracks and proves that you can create a hit with just a few catchy elements.
