Australian Indie Pop artist Merpire today brings news of her debut album and shares her “Village” video. Merpire is the moniker of Melbourne-based emerging artist Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt. She first emerged in 2018 when she released her debut project Endless Chatter. Since then she’s released another EP and gained the support of a number of notable outlets.
Today she is announcing that her debut album Simulation Ride will be released on July 23rd via Warner’s ADA. It will include “Dinosaur” and her lovely new single “Village” which you can watch the video for below. The introspective song tackles self doubt and how Merpire can be harsh on herself at times.
“Sometimes I would get so caught up in self doubt,” Merpire reveals. “Seeing qualities in people that I didn’t think I had,” she adds. “That I forgot to see what qualities I had that they might love me for.” Merpire notes that it is an on going battle that she won’t be defeated by. “Sometimes it still wavers but I’ve worked hard on building my confidence,” she adds. “Telling myself over and over through this song that it really does take a village to love someone.” Merpire’s new single, “Village”, is out now on Apple Music and Spotify.
