Layla Kardan is a Third Culture Kid, born in Belgium with Persian roots an Australian nationality and currently lives in Dubai. “You” is the first single to be taken from her forthcoming EP, Abscission, which will be released later this year. “it’s about the constant struggle of remaining independent and yet always falling into the arms of possessive men incapable of handling my strength,” Layla explains. “The constant pull to retain a position of power ultimately sees the relationship fail and overturn for the last time.” she adds. The striking video was shot in the desert, with limited resources during Dubai lock down. The stills from each scene are wonderful and could easily be used for a fashion shoot. “You” is out now on Apple Music and Spotify.
