After teasing his new album in recent, Tyler, The Creator has released CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. While his Grammy award winning 2019 album IGOR was a multigenre one, this project is very much a return to rap. His sixth studio album has the feel of a mixtape, with it’s inclusion of DJ Drama ad libs throughout. A throwback to his Gangsta Grillz mixtape series, which you can hear Lil Jon’s famous “Gangsta Grillz” tag throughout the album.
It’s still as eclectic as you’d expect an album by Tyler, The Creator to be but it’s much more rooted in rap than his previous album was. There’s the 90’s RnB vibes of “WUSYANAME”, the menacing “LUMBERJACK” and the Lovers Rock of “I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE” for example.
DJ Khaled didn’t seem to happy about Tyler’s win at last year’s Grammy Awards and his now legendary Hot 97 freestyle seem to have had a big influence on this album. Tyler even references the Grammy issue on “LUMBERJACK”, rapping, “I took that gold bitch home, niggas was big mad.”
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is a feature rich album with appearances from 42 Dugg, YoungBoy NBA, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Wayne, Brent Faiyaz, Lil Uzi Vert & Pharrell amongst others. It’s been great watching Tyler evolve as an artist over the years and his latest effort doesn’t disappoint. CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is out now on Apple Music and Spotify, you can listen to it in full below.
