Sabiyha – Lullaby

British-Guyanese, London-based artist Sabiyha pays tribute to her Nanny on “Lullaby” and it’s today’s Song of The Day. It samples the chant that she used to sing to hush Sabiyha and her 12 other cousins to sleep when they were small. ” My Nanny is the reason we’re all so proud of who we are. Coming from an immigrant family, people like us can be shamed into changing our identities in order to fit in to a British society,” notes Sabiyha. “My Nanny taught us the importance of repping our heritage and being proud of our roots, she adds. It reminded me a bit of the Diwali Riddim which was perhaps most notably used by Lumidee on “Never Leave You (Uh Oh)”. But Sabiyha’s track is entirely different, everything about it – the artwork, the story behind the song’s inspiration, the song and it’s message are all wonderful. “Lullaby” is out now on Apple Music and Spotify.
