Long Beach-based rapper Vince Staples’ understated self titled album is a brilliant example of quality over quantity. The album’s ten tracks are just over twenty minutes in play time and there aren’t any worth skipping. The production is mostly handled by Kenny Beats and there’s just one featured artist, singer-songwriter Fousheé. Everything is kept to a minimum and with the little that is included, Vince does so much.
It’s his first album in three years, since his 2018 concept album FM!. This is a fairly laidback album that reflects Vince’s nature even though the environment that he is talking about is anything but ladiback. It includes “ARE YOU WITH THAT?” and his latest single “LAW OF AVERAGES”.
